Madoromi

Madoromi is a Japanese word.
It describes the state between wakefulness and sleep - the gentle, fleeting moment.
Half-awake.
Half-dreaming.
Drifting softly into slumber.

Madoromi - the gentle state between wakefulness and sleep -
feels strangely similar to the sensation of stepping back into one's own neighborhood.
There are days spent traveling far away, and days when work has kept me distant.
But when all of that is over, and I finally return home as the destination,
the instant I enter the familiar streets, my shoulders loosen with relief.
The scenery I know so well greets me: the voices of children playing in the park.
the hardcovers of cars lined up in parking lots, the ivy climbing over apartment facades,
the orange bicycle resting quietly in front of a doorway.
These small, ordinary fragments of everyday life somehow gather into a powerful sense of comfort.
Inis work seeks to Visualize madoromi—
a uniquely Japanese sensibility-
set within the backdrop of a Japanese residential neighborhood, and expressed through the lens of fashion.
